A pile up early Sunday night at a freeway interchange in San Jose sent 12 people to local hospitals, but no life-threatening injuries were reported.

Rahul Maharaj, a senior San Jose Fire Department dispatcher, said the accident occurred shortly before 6:38 p.m. at the intersection of Hwy 101 and I-880. He said there were no major injuries reported by the fire and California Highway Patrol officers who responded. The CHP's online report indicated that seven vehicles were involved.
