BERKELEY -- A man was arrested Tuesday after police said he stabbed two people in a south Berkeley home, then set the house on fire after police arrived.
Police were called to a house in the 1400 block of Harmon Street about 4 p.m. on a report of an assault with a deadly weapon.
When police and firefighters arrived, they found two people with stab wounds, who were taken to a hospital.
When police tried to go back into the home, the man locked the doors, barricaded himself inside and started a fire using a can of lighter fluid he was waving around, police said.
With the fire burning, police said the man tried to run out the back door, but he was caught and arrested. His name and age were not released.
The fire was controlled, but a damage estimate was not available. The names, ages and conditions of the victims also were not immediately available.
Any relationship between the suspect and the victims was unknown Tuesday afternoon.
