Dublin's Tran wins NCS wrestling title

  • Dublin High girls wrestler Linda Tran took first place in the 114-pound division at the North Coast Section Championships on Feb. 2 at Pittsburg High. Tran won twice by pin and once by technical fall with a dominating performance. She won by fall over Granada's Alina Kotowski in just 43 seconds in the championship match. Tran took fourth at the California Interscholastic Federation tournament last year.

    Dons become eligible for NCS playoffs

  • Lexi Nicholas posted two shutouts in critical East Bay Athletic League matches, helping the Amador Valley High girls soccer team top Monte Vista 1-0 on Jan. 29 and California 1-0 on Jan. 31. The victories helped Amador Valley, which had a record of 11-6-2 entering this week, become eligible for the North Coast Section Division I playoffs. Nicholas had nine saves against Monte Vista and seven against the Grizzlies. Nicholas stopped two breakaways against the Mustangs and four against California.

    Amador Valley stuns Granada in overtime

  • The Amador Valley boys basketball team improved to 12-10 overall and 3-7 in the EBAL with a 62-58 overtime win over Granada on Feb. 1. The Matadors, who fell to 14-8 and 7-3 in league, outscored Amador Valley 22-6 in the fourth quarter to force the extra time. Mat Macapagal led the Dons with 16 points.

    Big week for Wolves

  • The San Ramon Valley High boys basketball team had big wins against California, 63-59, on Jan . 29 and Foothill, 69-52, on Feb. 1. The Wolves were led by junior guard Jerry Karczewski, who had 24 points in each game. Other key contributors against California were sophomore guard Keith Smith (11 points) and seniors Justin Bangay (eight points) and Scott Fisher (10 points). Against Foothill, Haris Arghandiwal had 19 points and Fisher contributed 13.

  • Monte Vista at San Ramon Valley, girls soccer, Feb. 7, 6 p.m. -- In a rematch of the North Coast Section Division I final last season, the Mustangs will visit the EBAL-leading Wolves. Monte Vista topped the Wolves 1-0 in the 2012 section final.

  • NCS Dual championships, wrestling, Feb. 9, 10 a.m. -- De La Salle, which has won six straight dual meet section titles, will again be a favorite to capture an NCS championship at the event hosted by James Logan.

  • NCS seedings, soccer, Feb. 10 -- NCS playoff brackets for boys and girls soccer will be selected and announced. Brackets can be found on the NCS website -- www.cifncs.org.

  • Kristjan Aubrey, Dublin girls basketball -- The junior forward had a game-high 24 points as the Gaels trounced Las Lomas 85-43 in the Diablo Foothill Athletic League on Feb. 1

  • JoJo McGlaston, Dublin boys basketball -- He had a game-high 23 points as the Gaels drubbed Las Lomas 91-62 on Feb. 1 to remain unbeaten in the DFAL.

  • Milan Moses, Dublin girls basketball -- She had a game-high 19 points as the Gaels tripped Acalanes 65-49 on Jan. 30 in the DFAL.

  • Courtney Seams, Amador Valley girls basketball -- The junior forward and captain had a game-high 16 points in a 54-42 win over Granada on Feb. 1, upping the Dons' league mark to 7-3.

  • Michael Anderson, Monte Vista boys soccer -- The sophomore had two goals and an assist, helping the Mustangs beat Foothill 4-1 on Jan. 31 and improve to 14-3-4 overall and 8-2-2 in the EBAL.

  • Jerry Karczewski, San Ramon Valley boys basketball -- The junior guard had 24 points in each of the Wolves' two EBAL wins last week.
