MARTINEZ -- Two West Contra Costa County gang members will be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on April 26 for killing two men in a Richmond restaurant in 2009.
A Contra Costa County jury on Tuesday found Ignacio Ruiz, 31, and Steven Valencia Miranda, 23, guilty of two counts of first-degree murder in the Aug. 30, 2009 shotgun slayings of 32-year-old Intaz Ahmed and 23-year-old Alvaro Garcia-Pena at the Alvardo Pit Boss Bar and Grill on San Pablo Avenue.
The defendants were also convicted of conspiracy to commit murder, gang participation and numerous charge enhancement.
Deputy district attorney Aron DeFerrari argued Ahmed, of Richmond, and Garcia-Pena, of San Francisco, were blow away as they sat at a bar drinking because the defendants wanted to promote their street gang.
A third defendant, Eliseo Flores, took a plea deal in the case and was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
