OAKLEY -- A man who was stabbed several times after a fight broke out in a popular restaurant on Super Bowl Sunday was in stable condition Tuesday and expected to be released from a hospital soon, police said.

Police responded about 11:45 p.m. Sunday to calls that several people were involved in a fight at Mike's Beef 'N' Brew at 2083 Main St., Oakley Police Chief Bani Kollo said. When police arrived, one man was bleeding from several stab wounds, at least one of which was to the stomach, Kollo said.

The man suspected in the stabbing was gone when police arrived, Kollo said. Police continue to investigate the case, but no arrests have been made, Kollo said.

An ambulance took the injured man to a hospital, where he underwent surgery to repair his wounds, Kollo said.

Police said it is unclear if the attack was gang-related or fueled by alcohol. Initial reports suggested the suspect also pulled out a gun, but police never found one, Kollo said.
