BERKELEY -- A two-alarm fire engulfed a three-story home in the Berkeley hills, but the family that lives there was not injured, a fire official said.
The blaze started about 11:46 a.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of Keith Lane, Acting Deputy Fire Chief Avery Webb said. It started in the upper floors of the home, but fire investigators were still trying to find out exactly where and why it began, Webb said.
No injuries were reported, Webb said. It was not clear if the family was outside when the fire began or if they escaped while the blaze was in progress, Webb said.
The fire was contained at 12:25 p.m. and declared under control about 2 p.m., according to a dispatcher. Neighboring homes were evacuated during the blaze, the dispatcher said.
Estimates on damage to the home and property were not immediately available.
