A representative of an advocacy group will speak about its fight for human rights in southern Mexico at appearances in Berkeley and Hayward.
Pablo Obando of the Fray Bartolome Human Rights Center will give a talk Monday at UC Berkeley and Tuesday at Chabot College in Hayward. The presentations will be in Spanish with English translation.
The Justice for Chiapas talks are being co-sponsored by the Anthropology Club at Chabot College, Students for Social Justice Club and the UC Berkeley Anthropology Club. They will focus on the indigenous communities' struggles for autonomy.
Obando will speak at 6:30 p.m. Monday at 221 Kroeber Hall, UC Berkeley, and noon Tuesday at Chabot College's events center. Admission is free.
