LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles police say officers guarding a target in an ex-officer's manifesto shot and wounded multiple people in Torrance who were in a pickup.
LA police Lt. Andrew Neiman says the officers were deployed in response to Christopher Dorner's written threats to department officials in a rambling 14-page manifesto.
Authorities say Dorner has implicated himself in the killing of two people in Irvine over the weekend. He's also the suspect in the overnight killing of a police officer and critical wounding of another cop.
Police did not say how seriously the people in Torrance were injured.
The Torrance Daily Breeze reported undercover Los Angeles police officers were involved in a shooting in the 19500 block of Redbeam Avenue, and Torrance officers were involved in a shooting at Flagler Lane and Beryl Street, Torrance police Lt. Devin Chase said.
The shootings occurred about 5:30 a.m.
"Both instances are related to the investigation of the Dorner subject, but neither involve him," Chase said.
"He is not in custody. To our knowledge he is not around here. There have been people who have been shot. I don't know any of the details."
Both shootings involved pickup trucks similar to the one Dorner is said to be driving, Chase said.
KTTV reported that the shootings might involve female newspaper delivery people.
