EAST PALO ALTO -- A 21-year-old Menlo Park man was shot and injured Saturday as he walked on a city street, police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was in stable condition after being rushed to the hospital with a wound to his upper torso that was not life threatening. Authorities learned of the gunfire when the hospital called around 9 p.m., said East Palo Alto police Sgt. David Carson.

The victim told investigators he was shot as he walked near Bell Street and Euclid Avenue. He said he heard roughly five shots and then realized he was wounded. His friend drove him to the hospital.
