OAKLAND -- A woman suspected of stealing a package and some food for the needy from a Fremont porch, a theft captured on video surveillance that went viral last year, was arrested Wednesday in Oakland, police said.
Danielle Shauntey Gonsalves, 32, of Oakland, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in the 9700 block of MacArthur Boulevard in connection with the stolen package and food from last November, said Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.
At the time of her arrest, she was in possession of mail, credit cards and identification that belonged to other victims, Bosques said Wednesday.
"The video, captured by the homeowner, was shown all around the county and received more than 8,000 views," Bosques said. "As a result, Fremont police detectives received several tips regarding the identity of the woman."
Fremont police detectives spotted Gonsalves about noon in Oakland, and she was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor petty theft, felony identity theft and felony probation violation.
Fremont police released still pictures from a video surveillance camera in mid-November to help catch a woman seen taking a package and some canned goods for the needy from a porch in the city's Glenmoor neighborhood.
The theft took place about 12:55 p.m. Nov. 17, when Gonsalves approached a home in the 4500 block of Meyer Park Circle about 20 minutes after United Parcel Service delivered the package, police said.
The video surveillance appears to show the woman taking the package, along with a bag of canned goods that had been left out for a charity organization, police said.
The package contained a pair of work boots, Bosques said.
