OAKLAND -- A shooting suspect who ran away after crashing his car in an East Oakland neighborhood Thursday morning was found by police after a two-hour search.

The suspect, who was not identified, was taken into custody after officers using a helicopter and police dogs located him about 1:10 p.m. hiding in the yard of a home in the 2600 block of 76th Avenue, police said.

It was not known when the shooting happened, but the suspect was spotted in a car just after 11 a.m. Police chased him, but he crashed near 77th and Garfield avenues and ran from the vehicle to nearby yards.

The yard where he was eventually located is about a block from where he crashed the car.
