SAN JOSE -- Seven teenagers were hospitalized -- three with injuries considered significant -- after a solo-vehicle crash on an East San Jose street Friday night, according to fire officials.

San Jose fire Capt. Mike Van Elgort said the teens were in a large SUV traveling on Marten Avenue near Mt. Kenya Drive when the driver lost control and caused the vehicle to roll over several times.

Van Elgort said three were "significantly injured" and all of the occupants of the car were taken to nearby trauma centers after the crash, which happened shortly past 10 p.m.

He said one of them had to be extricated from the car, but "no one was in critical at the time of transport."

Van Elgort said there were no obvious signs that alcohol was involved in the crash, but it did appear that the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed.

The crash site is near Mt. Pleasant Road in the Terrace Hill neighborhood.

No additional details were available Friday night.
