ENCINITAS -- Authorities say two San Diego County sheriff's deputies have shot and injured and a suspect is barricaded inside a home.
A sheriff's statement says the deputies were seeking a suspected car thief shortly after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Encinitas, and shots were fired as they approached him.
The statement says both deputies were hit and injured, and both were taken to hospitals.
Sheriff Bill Gore tells UT San Diego one deputy was having surgery for a severe leg injury and the other was being treated for a grazing fragment wound to his forehead. Both are expected to survive.
The statement says the suspect is inside a home in Encinitas, a coastal suburb north of San Diego, and he's threatening to shoot any deputies who try to enter the house.
