ALAMEDA -- Supporters of the Alameda Boys & Girls Club are hosting the group's 28th gala, which could knock one out of the park on March 2.
This year's event -- "Root for Great Futures Battle of the Bay Gala" -- invites guests to dress up in their favorite baseball team's colors and enter the best dressed, most fans contest.
"People will come in evening attire, as always, with a twist," said Anne DeBardeleben, a volunteer co-chair of the event, along with Sally Rudolf. "But maybe I'll wear a black dress and mix it up with some San Francisco Giants colors, like orange jewelry, and Sally could wear a green dress with yellow or gold accessories for the Oakland A's."
Last year, DeBardeleben said, guests wore red hats and other fun extras. The event's theme was "Red Hot Futures."
"We expect a crowd of 350 or more guests to the event, which is black-tie-optional, as in past years," she said.
The event will feature appetizers, champagne, a silent auction, social time, a live auction, dinner, music and more.
"We'll have some fun activities, like a big board that combines a silent and live auction, prizes for the best dressed, a raffle and a presentation of the semifinalists in the Youth of the Year contest and the announcement of the winner," DeBardeleben explained. "Plus, the end of the evening should be great with a DJ and dancing, along with a photo booth to capture the evening's fun."
The event will also include a
"For me it is about our kids," DeBardeleben said.
Supporting the Boys & Girls Club of Alameda "is a great way to invest in our community and our future. We see some really amazing kids turn into some really amazing citizens after they come through the club," she said.
