OAKLAND -- Lanes were cleared and the morning commute resumed following two separate crashes Tuesday on both directions of Interstate 880 in the East Bay.

Traffic was backed up for more than a mile, but no one was seriously injured in a three-vehicle wreck about 5:50 a.m. on northbound I-880 near the Oak Street offramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Police were investigating how it happened, but the CHP said a dump truck collided with another vehicle, which then hit another car.

Shattered glass was scattered on the freeway and the aftermath of the wreck left three lanes blocked for a time. The CHP cleared the wreck off the roadway by 6:10 a.m.

Just as the CHP was clearing that wreck, a Honda Goldwing motorcycle collided with a car about 6:15 a.m. on southbound I-880 in Fremont near the Mowry Avenue onramp, said Officer Kevin Bartlett. The wreck forced the shutdown of one lane of the freeway.

The driver of the bike was transported to a hospital where he was treated for minor injuries, Bartlett said.

No one else was injured.
