RODEO -- One person was extracted from a vehicle after their car toppled off Interstate 80 into a ditch during peak commuter hours Tuesday evening.

CHP responded to a call of a vehicle off the roadway at the Cummings Skyway off-ramp on the westside of I-80 around 7:30 p.m.

Once on scene, officers found one person trapped inside the vehicle. The person was eventually pulled from the car, and according to CHP, suffered major injuries.

A blood technician was also called to the scene to determine if the accident was due to drugs or alcohol.

The extent of the person's injuries were unknown at this time.

Traffic remains heavy in the area.
