CASTRO VALLEY -- A overturned box truck and a gas leak forced the California Highway Patrol to shut down multiple lanes along Interstate 680 on Wednesday afternoon, snarling traffic at peak commuter hours.
The accident, which was reported around 4:30 p.m., involved a white box truck and several vehicles, according to CHP. The box truck, which had tipped over, was also leaking gasoline onto the roadway.
It is unknown how serious any injuries were, but CHP did close down a majority of I-680 around 5:30 p.m. in an attempt to clean up the spill as well as move vehicles off the roadway.
Around 6 p.m., CHP announced that lanes one, two and three had been re-opened, but right lanes remained closed as crews continued to work to clean up.
The entire road reopened about 9 p.m.
