A stolen loaded handgun was found inside a vehicle and its driver and passenger were arrested Saturday after a traffic stop on Encinal Avenue, police said.

A patrol officer pulled over the vehicle about 11:10 p.m. in the 2200 block of the street, next to Alameda High School, because one of its headlights was out, and officers searched it after smelling burned marijuana coming from inside, police said. The handgun was reportedly found in a rear compartment. Details about where the theft occurred were not immediately available.

The 52-year-old driver was booked on suspicion of violating his probation and other charges, including possessing stolen property.His passenger, 24, was also booked on suspicion of possessing the stolen firearm.

FRIDAY, FEB. 22

  • BURGLARY -- A commercial burglary was reported about 7:15 a.m. in the 1500 block of Webster Street. Police also arrested a man, 20, on suspicion of commercial burglary about 3:35 p.m. after he allegedly stole merchandise from Safeway at Alameda South Shore Center.

  • DRUNKEN DRIVING -- Police arrested a man, 25, on suspicion of drunken driving about 11:10 p.m. after he was involved in a traffic collision at Eighth Street and Central Avenue.

    SATURDAY, FEB. 23

  • BURGLARY -- About $2,500 in cash was reported stolen during the burglary of a business in the 1300 block of High Street. Police learned about the break-in about 10:15 a.m. The burglary of a storage unit was reported about 3:25 p.m. in the 1800 block of Webster Street.

  • VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen about 7:40 p.m. in the 2800 block of Marina Drive. About 10 minutes earlier a vehicle was reported stolen in the 1500 block of Lincoln Avenue.

    SUNDAY, FEB. 24

  • DRUNKEN DRIVING -- Police arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of drunken driving about 12:45 a.m. after he was involved in a traffic collision in the 1800 block of Bay Street. A woman, 30, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving about 2:20 a.m. in the 2200 block of Central Avenue, while a 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the same offense about 4:15 p.m. in the 1200 block of Willow Street, where he was also involved in a traffic collision.

  • DRUG POSSESSION -- A traffic stop in the 500 block of Haight Avenue led to the arrest of a man, 32, after a background check showed he was driving with a suspended license and he was found in possession of methamphetamine and suspected hydrocodone pills, police said. The arrest occurred about 1:20 a.m. Police also arrested a man, 37, about 5:10 p.m. in the 2200 block of Alameda South Shore Center, where police said he was carrying less than one ounce of marijuana.

  • VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen about 8:45 a.m. in the 1700 block of Bay Street.

  • UNDER THE INFLUENCE -- Police arrested a 41-year-old man about 2:25 p.m. at Pacific Avenue and Oak Street, where he allegedly showed signs of being under the influence of narcotics.

  • PETTY THEFT -- A woman, 51, faces a petty theft charge after she was caught shoplifting merchandise from TJ Maxx at Alameda South Shore Center, police said. She was arrested at the store just after 3:30 p.m.

  • BURGLARY -- Police suspect the same burglar was behind separate break-ins in the 2100 and 1300 blocks of South Loop Road. The thief used a rock to break a glass door to get inside the businesses. The loss included a cash register and tip jar.

    MONDAY, FEB. 25

  • VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen just after midnight in the first block of Mecartney Road.

  • BURGLARY -- A television and four tires were reported stolen during the burglary of a garage in the 1800 block of Webster Street. The thief cut a door hasp to get inside the garage, police said. The break-in was reported just before 3 p.m.

  • DRUNKEN DRIVING -- Police arrested a woman, 45, on suspicion of drunken driving about 7:45 p.m. after she was involved in a traffic collision at Park Street and Blanding Avenue. The woman was also on probation as a result of a drunken driving conviction. Another woman, 30, was arrested for the same offense about 10:50 p.m. at Park Street and Lincoln Avenue, where she was also involved in a traffic collision. Her 32-year-old passenger was arrested for public intoxication, police said.

  • IDENTITY THEFT -- A resident of the 300 block of Spruce Street reported identity theft about 7:20 p.m. Someone used the victim's personal information to make purchases on the Internet, police said.
