CONCORD -- A 30-minute foot chase Friday resulted in the arrest of a man who stole jeans from a Concord business and who also had an outstanding felony warrant, police said.

The incident was first reported just before 5 p.m. when Concord officers were called to a business on the 5000 block of Clayton Road for a shoplifter who had already left the store.

Officers began searching the area and around 5:30 p.m., the suspect, whose identity has not been released by police, was spotted on the corner of Clayton Road near Ayers Road where he attempted to board a transit bus, police said.

When police attempted to detain the man, he became combative with officers and fled on foot.

A Contra Costa sheriff's helicopter, as well as a police K-9 unit, were called out to the scene to help search for the man, who was found hiding in a yard on the 4000 block of Clayton Road a half hour later.

The man was transported to the county jail in Martinez. The incident is still under investigation, police said.
