PALO ALTO -- A robber brandishing a handgun held up a Public Storage on Saturday afternoon, police reported.
Investigators said the suspect entered the business on East Bayshore Road just before 5 p.m. with a silver semi-automatic handgun and held an employee, a man in his 50s, at gunpoint while he took some personal property from him, plus cash. The robber also took a land-line phone from the business.
The suspect ordered the victim to the ground and then fled on foot, police said. After waiting a few minutes, the employee went to a nearby business and called police. Officers were not able to locate the suspect. No one was injured during the robbery.
The victim described the suspect as a black man in his 20s and about 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head, blue jeans and dark-colored gloves.
Police said they were not certain if the robbery was connected to a string of street robberies that have occurred in Palo Alto since Dec. 2.
