A 21-year-old man was killed in a shooting in San Francisco's Bayview District this morning, a police spokesman said.
The shooting was reported at 8:24 a.m. at Third Street and Palou Avenue.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired and found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.
He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Esparza said. His name is being withheld until family members are notified of his death.
Police saw a suspect, a 22-year-old man, running from the scene and arrested him a few blocks away at Keith Street and Quesada Avenue, Esparza said.
His name has not yet been released.
A gun believed to be the murder weapon was found in the wheel well of a nearby car, Esparza said.
Shortly after 10 a.m., southbound Third Street remained closed at Palou Avenue, where a pile of clothes and a trail of blood could be seen.
Esparza said southbound Municipal Railway bus and light-rail service on Third Street has been interrupted in the area.
He said police are encouraging witnesses to come forward by calling the department's homicide detail at (415) 553-1145, its anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or by sending a text message to TIP411 with "SFPD" in the message.
