Two people found deceased in a Vallejo apartment Sunday are dead as a result of a murder and suicide, Lt. Jim O'Connell said Monday.
The victims' names were not immediately available and Vallejo police investigators were unwilling to release much information about the incident at this time.
"There's every indication it was a murder-suicide," O'Connell said. "It's tragic and sad."
Family members called police at 9:23 a.m. Sunday to ask for the officers to check on the woman who lived in an apartment unit at 400 Ebbetts Pass Road, in North Vallejo, since they had not heard from her in several days, police said.
While officers were responding to the location Sunday morning, police received calls from witnesses who said they heard a gunshot from the apartment.
Witnesses forced their way into the apartment and found both man and woman dead inside of apparent gun shot wounds.
The woman and man were roommates and in their early 50s, police added.
O'Connell said detectives are still looking into what may have triggered the deaths.
"There's still more that we would like to learn from independent sources regarding the relationship," he said.
There is no record of domestic violence or immediate evidence of drugs.
