UNION CITY -- A man fatally shot by officers Saturday night was identified Tuesday as 26-year-old Union City man Amos Smith.

Two officers shot Smith after they said he pulled a gun from the waistband of his pants and pointed it at them after they tried to make a traffic stop about 10 p.m. Saturday on Dyer Street.

The shooting is being investigated by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office and the Union City police investigations unit, authorities said.

Smith was one of four people killed by police in less than 27 hours Saturday and Sunday. Other shootings were in Hayward, San Francisco and San Jose.
