SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco police remained on scene in Hunters Point late Tuesday after an officer-involved shooting earlier sent one suspect to the hospital.
SFPD spokesman Sgt. Michael Andraychak reported that the shooting occurred near the intersection of George Court and Ingalls Street around 6:55 p.m.
According to KTVU, police Chief Greg Suhr said officers spotted a stolen BMW and gave chase, cornering the vehicle on George Court.
Suhr said officers got out of their car, but then the driver of the BMW knocked down one officer with the vehicle, KTVU reported.
Officers then opened fire, wounding the suspect, and Suhr said the driver was taken to the hospital in stable condition. The officer was not badly hurt.
Suhr told KTVU the BMW was stolen Monday during a string of four robberies committed by a person carrying a shotgun.
Officers remained on scene late Tuesday to continue their investigation.
The officer-involved shooting is the fifth in the Bay Area since Saturday. Four men were killed by police in separate shootings Saturday and Sunday in Hayward, Union City, San Jose and San Francisco.
