SAN JOSE -- A 75-year-old man was struck and killed by a car while he was crossing Capitol Expressway around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, becoming the city's sixth traffic-related fatality of the year.
The man -- who was not identified pending notification of next of kin -- was not in a crosswalk when he was struck in the eastbound lanes about 200 yards west of McLaughlin Avenue, according to San Jose police. Paramedics performed CPR on the man and he was taken to Regional Medical Center, but he was pronounced dead at 5:25 p.m.
The white 1997 Toyota that hit him remained at the scene, and police said the 16-year-old driver is cooperating with the investigation and drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors.
