ANTIOCH -- A shooting near Antioch High School sent a 16-year-old boy to the hospital and locked down several schools Wednesday morning, police said.

The shooting occurred about 8:40 a.m. in the 600 block of West 19th Street, police said. The teen had warrants out for his arrest and was being uncooperative with police, they said.

The boy left for a hospital before police arrived, but officers found several spent shell casings on the street, police said. The hospital contacted police when the teen arrived and said he had a single gunshot wound that was not life-threatening, police said.

No other homes or vehicles in the neighborhood were damaged, and it appeared there were no other injuries, police said.

Police tape at the end of the street could be seen from the Antioch High campus, which is located about 50 yards away.

Antioch High Principal Louie Rocha said the school was alerted about 8:45 a.m. and that the victim was not a student of the Antioch Unified School District.

Antioch and Live Oak high schools, Antioch Middle School, and Fremont and Marsh elementary schools were locked down for a short time, Rocha said.
