Between the Vines is a biweekly column on wine and winemaking in the Livermore Valley region. This column was contributed by Bob Bossi, co-owner of Dante Robere Vineyards.
Winery name: Dante Robere Vineyards
Owners: Dan and Ann Marie Rosenberg and Bob and Debbie Bossi
About us: Dan Rosenberg and I, Bob Bossi, have been friends for more than 30 years. I have enjoyed drinking fine wine for many years, and when Dan moved to Livermore and got the "wine bug" things began to move fast. In 2007, Dan and I planted a small zinfandel vineyard in Dan's backyard. We began making wine at home and volunteering our time assisting various Livermore Valley winemakers in an effort to learn the winemaking process.
We dreamed of turning our hobby and passion for wine and winemaking into a second career. The thought of developing a winery and tangible business that our children could become a part of and someday take over was a powerful motivator.
In 2012, our families decided to officially start a winery. We wanted to own a vineyard and have a place to build a winery facility from the ground up. Accordingly, we purchased a 6-acre syrah vineyard and adjoining lot zoned for a small winery on Wetmore Avenue in south Livermore. Our winery, Dante Robere Vineyards, was bonded in 2012 and is named after Dan and me.
Our wines: In 2012, our first year of operation, we made small lots of sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, syrah rose, estate
Our estate-grown syrah is our signature wine. The grapes come from our mature vineyard on Wetmore Avenue. Being our own vineyard, we can control all aspects of the growing and harvesting of the grapes.
Wine prices: We anticipate selling our wines starting in May and expect our price range to be $15 to $46 per bottle.
Upcoming event: Dante Robere Vineyards will participate with 30 other local wineries in Barrel Tasting Weekend on March 23 and 24. We will offer tastes of our 2010 San Francisco Bay Zinfandel and our 2012 Livermore Valley Chardonnay direct from the barrels. Find us at Eagle Ridge Vineyards!
Hours & tasting fee: Starting in May, we will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 to 4:30 p.m. and we will not charge a tasting fee.
Where is it?: Starting in May, we will share the tasting room at Eagle Ridge Vineyards, 10017 Tesla Road in Livermore.
