FREMONT -- A liquor store clerk lost a wrestling match with a masked robber who made off with cash from the business Tuesday night.

The clerk was not seriously injured.

Officers were called at 9:35 p.m. to SV Food and Liquor at 35650 Fremont Blvd. for a report of a strong-armed robbery, said police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.

A masked suspect entered the store and grabbed cash from the clerk's hands and from the register while the clerk was distracted, police said.

The clerk attempted to wrestle the money back but was unsuccessful, Bosques said.

Following the struggle the clerk complained of minor pain, but an ambulance was not needed, Bosques said.

Police described the suspect as a black man, 28-30 years old, 5 foot 10 inches, with a thin build. He wore a white ski mask, a gray hooded sweatshirt and black jeans.

Police said they plan to review video surveillance taken from the store.
