SAN LEANDRO -- An Oakland man who three times tried -- and failed -- to break into a Victoria Avenue home was arrested this week after a two-month investigation, police said.
Working on a tip, officers spotted Jesus Rodriguez on Tuesday in the area of International Boulevard and 62nd Avenue in Oakland.
Investigators used fingerprint evidence and the homeowner's surveillance camera to identify Rodriguez as the prime suspect in the Dec. 29 burglary.
The camera, according to police, captured the failed break-in: Someone used a shovel to try to pry open the door. It didn't work. Next they tried to kick it open. No luck. Finally, they set their sights on a window, cutting the screen with a knife. The window didn't budge.
Rodriguez was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary.
