SAN JOSE -- A 75-year-old man struck and killed by a car while crossing Capitol Expressway Tuesday afternoon has been identified as Ronald Lee Jungels of San Jose.
Emergency personnel tried to save Jungels, who was struck by a white 1997 Toyota around 4:15 p.m. about 200 yards west of McLaughlin Avenue, but he was pronounced dead a little more than an hour later at Regional Medical Center.
He was the city's sixth traffic-related fatality of the year.
The 16-year-old driver of the Toyota stopped and is cooperating with the investigation, and police said it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident.
