SANTA ROSA-- Authorities were led to a man suspected of burglary at a Sonoma County bar after his photo was posted on Facebook.
Sebastopol police Sgt. David Ginn tells the Santa Rosa Press Democrat that social media is making it harder for criminals to hide.
Surveillance cameras captured the Feb. 20 robbery of $11,000 in audio visual equipment at Sebastopol's HopMonk Tavern.
To help generate tips for detectives, the bar's staff posted a photo of the suspect on the HopMonk's Facebook page.
The site quickly drew more than 3,600 shares and 280,000 views. Many witnesses identified the suspect as 22-year-old Troy Spencer Smith of Santa Rosa.
The newspaper says Smith, who was already in jail on other matters, was charged Wednesday with burglary and grand theft. He remains jailed in lieu of $20,000 bail.
