HAYWARD -- Local residents can get free emergency training next month.
The fire department is offering the Community Emergency Response Team training and certification, which teaches basic disaster response skills.
The program will have four evening classes and one "hands on" skills class. Those taking part must be 18 and older and be Hayward or Fairview residents.
Classes will be 6 to 9:30 p.m. April 8, 15, 22 and 29 at City Hall, 777 B St. The final skills class will take place 6 to 9:30 p.m. May 6 at Hayward's West Winton fire station.
