NEWARK -- A Chicago man is set to be arraigned Tuesday on charges he sexually assaulted a woman at a hotel here over the weekend, authorities said.
Andrew Christopher Craig, 27, was behind bars at the Santa Rita Jail after being arrested on suspicion of forced oral copulation, assault with attempt to commit rape, felony batter and false imprisonment in connection to the Sunday morning attack, Cmdr. Mike Carroll said.
Officers responded at 6:44 a.m. to a reported battery at the Motel 6 at 5601 Mowry Ave. just east of Interstate 880, after a female victim said she had been physically assaulted while in a room at the business, Carroll said.
During an interview with officers, the victim also said she was sexually assaulted by a man in room 257. Police found the suspect -- later identified as Craig -- in that room and the victim positively identified him as her attacker, Carroll said.
The victim told police she met Craig that night, Carroll said.
Craig was arrested and transported to jail where he was being held on $400,000 bail.
Jail records show he was due to appear before a judge Tuesday morning at the Fremont Hall of Justice.
