SAN LEANDRO -- A box truck carrying bottles of wine hit a guardrail and flipped on its side, spilling wine and leaving shards of glass on Interstate 880 on Tuesday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.
Nobody was seriously injured in the wreck, which occurred about 9:30 a.m. at the southbound Marina Boulevard offramp and snarled traffic. The CHP closed the two right lanes on I-880, as well as a stretch of Davis Street in San Leandro just before 10 a.m. and said the lanes would remain closed for at least two hours.
The CHP said the cause of the wreck is still being investigated, but that the crash caused a large piece of metal to hang down from a Davis Street guardrail and hover over the far right lane of I-880. Crews were on the scene to make repairs, the CHP said.
