Alameda team reaches quarterfinals

  • The Alameda High girls basketball team reached the Division II Northern California regional playoff quarterfinals before a 47-39 loss to Lynbrook-San Jose on March 9. The Hornets opened with a 56-46 win over McNair-Stockton in a first-round game on March 6. DeJa Johnson and Marie Bertholdt both scored 17 points to lead Alameda, and Bertholdt also grabbed 18 rebounds in the win.

    El Cerrito squad takes third in competition

  • The El Cerrito High Mountain Biking Team placed third overall on March 10 in the East Garrison race for the NorCal Mountain Biking League. Among its top-eight finishers were Tyler O'Neal (second, sophomore boys), Molly Radosevich (sixth, varsity girls), Xan Marshland (eighth, jv boys), Maddie Valdez (seventh, freshman girls) and Jessica Mast (eighth, freshman girls).

    Big inning keys College Prep victory

  • The College Prep softball team scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning and didn't trail after that in an 8-5 win over Head-Royce in a Bay Counties League-East game on March 8. Deanna Necula and Lena Milton both drove in two runs and Lila Jansen slammed a triple for College Prep
