BAY POINT -- A man is being held on $100,000 bail after he admitted to chasing and firing shots at a man he found inside his car early Thursday.
At 6:21 a.m., Contra Costa County Sheriff's deputies arrived in the 800 block of Steffa Street in Bay Point after they received several calls of shots fired in the neighborhood. Deputies spoke with a resident, 39-year-old Charles Settle, who said when he approached his car that morning, he noticed an unknown man inside the back seat.
The man then got out of the car, got on his bicycle and began to pedal away.
Rather than letting him go, Settles retrieved a handgun and chased the man on the bike, firing several rounds at him.
The man on the bike has not been located, and area hospitals were notified.
One home was struck by a stray bullet, but there were no injuries.
Deputies arrested Settles and he was booked into County Jail in Martinez for assault with a firearm on a person and discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner.
He is being held in lieu of $100,000.
