Dons rule Queen of the Mountain

  • The Amador Valley High softball team beat California 1-0 in the championship game of the Queen of the Mountain tournament on March 16 at the Pleasanton Softball Complex. The Dons' Krista Williams hit a home run and doubled, and Johanna Grauer, the tournament MVP, was the winning pitcher with 12 strikeouts. Livermore topped Granada 2-0 in the third place game. Williams, Grauer and Victoria Molina made the all-tournament team, along with California's Jessica Catson, Kwyn Cooper and Lindsey Chalmers, Granada's Jessica Johnson and Bianca Devoto, and Livermore's Ashley Weiler and Sami Trask.

    Gaeels drop NorCal heartbreaker in OT

  • The Dublin High boys basketball team rallied to tie College Park before falling 93-90 in overtime in the championship game of the Northern Regional Division II playoffs on March 16 in Sacramento. The Gaels (26-7), who set a school record for wins tin a season and earned their first league title in 40 years, also rallied to beat Sacramento 81-76 in the semifinals after besting El Camino 86-75 in the second round. Defensive stalwart Cameron Moses had 14 points and four assists against Sacramento and 16 points and six rebounds against the Falcons.

    Foothill spikes Granada

  • The Foothill High boys volleyball team remained unbeaten in East Bay Athletic League action with a 26-24, 25-12, 25-13 win over Granada on March 14. Cory Frederickson led the Falcons with 24 kills and two aces, and setter Matt Lee had 35 assists and 10 service points.

    California drubs Berkeley

  • Senior Adam Kimmel allowed five hits over five scoreless innings, helping the California High baseball team blank Berkeley 6-0 on March 16 in nonleague action. Kimmel struck out eight and walked two. Senior Nick Truex was 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Grizzlies (5-0).

    Dougherty Valley rolls

  • The surging Dougherty Valley High baseball team walloped Santa Rosa 9-1 in nonleague action on March 16, improving to 4-3 on the season. Wildcats' senior Ryan Winkler was 3 for 4 with a double and five RBIs, and JD Clarke got the win, allowing no runs and two hits over five innings, striking out six and walking none. The Wildcats have won three in a row after a 13-2 home loss against powerful Granada.

  • JoJo McGlaston, Dublin boys basketball -- McGlaston completed a brilliant senior season with 35 points, 14 rebounds and three steals in the Gaels' 93-90 loss in overtime against College Park in the Division II Northern Regional championship game on March 16 .

  • Jacob Payne, Granada baseball -- Payne struck out 14 and allowed no earned runs over six strong innings in the unbeaten Matadors' 9-2 win over Liberty on March 12.

  • Jacob Solomon, Dublin golf -- The sophomore carded a medalist score of 35 to help the Gaels beat Acalanes 192-204 in DFAL action on March 14 at San Ramon Golf Course.
