SAN JOSE -- A man is in the hospital after being wounded in a drive-by shooting that happened near Clyde L. Fischer Middle School just before 8 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
The victim, a male believed to be between 18 and 20 years old, was found near the school at 1720 Hopkins Ave. in East San Jose, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
He was taken to a hospital for treatment, and San Jose police spokesman Jason Dwyer said it was not immediately known whether his injuries are life threatening.
According to Dwyer, the victim was standing on the sidewalk near the school when a light-colored SUV drove by, and someone in the vehicle fired an unspecified number of shots at the victim.
The vehicle fled and has not been located, Dwyer said. The motive is not known.
