Yoko Ono marked what would have been her 44th wedding anniversary with John Lennon on Tuesday by launching an anti-gun protest featuring a photograph of the glasses Lennon was wearing when he was shot -- now coated in blood.

The former Beatles star was shot to death in 1980 outside his apartment building in New York City. According to WENN, Ono posted a poignant photograph of Lennon's blood-spattered spectacles with the caption, "Over 1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on Dec 8, 1980."

She added, "31,537 people are killed by guns in the USA every year ... We are turning this beautiful country into (a) war zone. Together, let's bring back America, the green land of peace ... The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience. After 33 years our son Sean and I still miss him."
