HAYWARD -- A San Leandro father was behind bars on Thursday after police say he shot a man in the face four times with a pellet gun because he thought the victim swiped his son's cell phone.

Officers responded after someone reported two people fighting about 7 p.m. Friday in the 800 block of B street, said Sgt. Mark Ormsby.

During the argument the suspect -- identified as Bravada Sessoms, 49 -- pulled out a pellet gun and shot the victim in the face four times, Ormsby said.

The victim suffered minor facial injuries, police said.

The suspect challenged the first officer on the scene to shoot him. But soon other officers arrived and arrested the suspect on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

A preliminary investigation revealed Sessoms accused the victim of stealing a cell phone from his son, Ormsby said.

Sessoms was behind bars on Thursday at the Santa Rita Jail on $145,000 bail.

He's due in court next week on the matter at the Hayward Hall of Justice, court records show.
