UNION CITY -- In a scene that resembled a junior high school cafeteria fight, a woman was arrested this week after she flung items including silverware and a drink at her romantic rival inside a local juice joint, police said.
As the showdown spilled outside the shop and police attempted to break it up, the man who was the object of the women's affections was also arrested when he objected to police breaking up the altercation.
Yvonne Stark, 19, of Hayward and a 20-year-old Union City woman had been dating the same man and had been in an ongoing feud that culminated in late Tuesday afternoon inside the Jamba Juice at 32358 Dyer St., police said.
The victim was inside the business "enjoying a cup of juice" when Starks noticed her inside, walked inside and decided to fight her for "getting involved with her boyfriend," said Cmdr. Ben Horner. Starks grabbed a metal tray off a counter that was filled with knives and forks and heaved it across the store at the victim, he added.
The victim ducked and managed to dodge the tray which, in turn, struck a nearby 27-year-old female customer in the head. The female customer sustained a minor cut to the top of her head, police said.
Unsatisfied at her unsuccessful assault, Stark then grabbed a large plastic cup filled with juice and threw that at her romantic rival, Horner said.
The two women then ran out of the store, "leaving the unintended victim bleeding from a scalp wound to fend for herself," Horner said.
Officers caught Stark outside, arrested her on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and then transported her to jail.
Meanwhile, in the parking lot, police arrested 19-year-old Jale Hallman of Hayward after he decided he was going to "take on" the police who were in the midst of detaining his girlfriends, Horner said.
Horner said Hallman swung twice at two veteran officers, missed and was arrested shortly after on suspicion of assault.
