ALBANY -- An exhausted swimmer who was five miles off the city's waterfront was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard on Thursday afternoon.
The swimmer, who was wearing a wetsuit, was struggling against the outgoing current when someone called the Coast Guard command center in San Francisco at 2 p.m.
The swimmer's name, age and city of residence were not released.
A helicopter rescue crew responded to the report and lowered a rescue swimmer into the icy water to help the man. He was flown to the Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco, where medical crews treated him for exhaustion and dehydration. He declined further medical treatment.
