SUNOL -- A Hayward man was killed after his car collided with another vehicle head-on on State Route 84 on Saturday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

At around 9:15 a.m., 46-year-old Hayward resident Todd Shur was driving his 2003 Dodge Viper eastbound on State Route 84 near Main Street in Sunol when he suddenly turned to the left, striking a 2012 Toyota pick-up truck traveling in the opposite direction head-on, according to CHP.

The impact of the crash caused Shur's car to skid onto a dirt shoulder and spin so it faced the opposite direction, CHP added.

The pick-up truck rolled over onto its left side, completely blocking traffic traveling westbound on State Route 84.

According to CHP, Shur succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver and three passengers of the pick-up truck, all from Stockton, were transported to San Jose Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.

A third driver that was traveling behind the pick-up truck when it was struck by Shur was not injured and the driver's car did not suffer major damage.

The eastbound lane of the highway from Main Street to Paloma Way was closed until around 10:55 a.m. The westbound lane reopened at about 2:20 p.m.
