FREMONT -- A 26-year-old man whom police say called on the services of an escort early Monday morning was robbed at gunpoint as he chatted with a woman on a street corner.
Officers were called at 12:45 a.m. to Stevenson Boulevard for a report of an armed robbery after the victim, who is from Fremont, dialed 911 to report the attack, Fremont police Spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said.
Police said the man was talking with the escort when he was pushed to the ground and robbed of $100 by a suspect who held a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun.
The man was not injured, police said, adding it's likely the victim got the escort's number from an online posting.
"The 'john' vehemently denies calling for services, despite his repeated phone calls to her number prior to the robbery," Bosques said Monday.
Instead, the victim told police he was "out for a walk" when a 2002-2003 Dodge van drove up beside him and a female got out and asked for his phone number. As the two talked, a man jumped out of the van and robbed him, the victim said.
The woman then got into the van with the attacker, then the two drove away, the victim told police.
Police said the male suspect is black and has a stocky build and shoulder length braided or dread locked hair. He wore a black shirt, blue sweater and a black hat. The woman is white, about 5 feet 6 inches tall with an average build and blonde hair. She wore a white short sleeved shirt and black pants.
