OAKLAND -- A 34-year-old Emeryville man was shot at least twice during an attempted robbery Monday night in the Adams Point area, police said.
The man's wounds were not life-threatening, authorities said. He apparently was visiting a friend in the area.
The shooting happened about 8:54 p.m. in the 400 block of Lee Street near Van Buren Avenue.
The man had just gotten into his car when two suspects, one holding a pistol, opened the door and demanded his wallet.
The man later told police he thought he was going to be shot so he grabbed the gun.
During the subsequent struggle with the gunman the man was shot in the hand and leg.
The suspects fled on foot without taking anything from the man.
Police are trying to determine if the same suspects were involved in two other attempted robberies several blocks away on Walker Avenue before the shooting. No one was hurt in those incidents.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the robbers. Anyone with information may call investigators at 510-238-3326 or a tip line at 510-773-2805.
