FREMONT -- An Oakland duo, including a female escort accused of setting a "john" up to be robbed, was behind bars on Wednesday after being caught with items taken during the robbery, police said.

Joanna Rehart and Deandre Brown, both age 30, were arrested at a hotel Tuesday on suspicion of robbery after items taken during the Monday morning heist were found inside a van that belonged to them, said police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.

Officers were called at 12:45 a.m. to Stevenson Boulevard for a report of an armed robbery after the victim, a 26-year-old man from Fremont, called 911 to report the attack.

Police said the man had solicited the escort's services and was talking with her on a street corner when he was pushed to the ground and robbed of $100 by a suspect who held a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun.

The man was not injured, police said, and the victim got the escort's number from an online posting.

The man, has "vehemently denied" calling for services, despite his repeated phone calls to her number before the robbery, Bosques said.

The victim told police he was "out for a walk" when a 2002-2003 Dodge van drove up beside him and a female got out and asked for his phone number. As the two talked, a man jumped out of the van and robbed him, the victim said.

The woman then got into the van with the attacker, then the two drove away, the victim told police.

Rehart and Brown are due to be arraigned at the Fremont Hall of Justice on Thursday, jail records show.
