BERKELEY -- A "very lucky" four-year-old girl was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries after she was hit by a truck Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Police said it appeared her foot was run over. The girl may have darted out into traffic between two parked cars on Eighth Street near Jones Street as she walked with her mother, Berkeley police spokeswoman Jennifer Coats said.
"She is definitely very, very lucky," Coats said. "It was definitely a wake-up call for them. It's important for parents to be mindful when they are walking around with their kids."
Coats said the driver of the truck does not appear to have been speeding or using drugs or alcohol. The accident remains under investigation.
