SAN JOSE -- The Sharks have sent veteran center Michal Handzus to the Chicago Blackhawks for a fourth-round pick in this summer's NHL entry draft, according to a Sharks source.
Handzus, who becomes an unrestricted free agent July 1, had one goal and one assist in 28 games with the Sharks this season. At 36, he had been a healthy scratch the past six games as Coach Todd McLellan went with a younger, faster lineup.
General Manager Doug Wilson signed Handzus to a two-year, $5 million contract in 2011 as the team was looking for a checking center to anchor its third line.
