A San Rafael man was arrested at a Novato hotel after police found 7 pounds of processed marijuana in his car.
Jerry Nicholas, 48, was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of marijuana possession for sale, drug use and having a false registration tab. His bail was set at $15,000.
A passenger in the car, Gary Lee Patterson, was booked on an outstanding arrest warrant alleging false imprisonment. Patterson, 28, is listed as a resident of Elk, Nev.
The incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the America's Best Value Inn at 7600 Redwood Blvd. Police contacted the occupants of the car after seeing the suspicious registration tab.
Police suspected the occupants of drug use and called for the department's drug-sniffing dog, Metz, who detected narcotics in the car, said Novato police Lt. Jennifer Welch. Police then searched the car and found the marijuana in plastic garbage bags.
