OAKLAND -- A paramedic was hospitalized and listed in critical condition Tuesday after he was shot in the head and crashed the car he was driving down a deep ravine, police said.
Shortly before noon, police were called to the 5200 block of Keller Avenue in East Oakland, just west of Skyline Boulevard, for a report of a man who had been shot, police said.
Sgt. Arturo Bautista said it appears someone inside one vehicle shot at the man in his Honda, and that the victim then drove off the roadway and crashed down an embankment, where emergency crews rescued him.
The man, whose name and age were not released, was taken to a hospital and is listed in critical condition, police said. The victim is a paramedic with Santa Clara County Ambulance, where he has worked since 2011, according to a statement from the company.
No suspects have been arrested and a motive in the shooting was not immediately known, police said.
Anyone with information about the shooting should call Oakland Police at 510-238-3821.
